Larissa Vaughn | Coach

Growing up sports was always a big part of life. My older brother played baseball for practically his entire childhood, and I was a swimmer for 10 years. If I wasn’t at the pool, you could find me at the ball park. I loved being a swimmer. Swimming taught me so many things, and allowed me to travel all over for state, regional, and national competitions. I have had great coaches and developed great friendships because of sports.

During my college years, I had the privilege to coach swimming for two years. I loved every minute. The kids I coached were so much fun. It was great helping them, encouraging them to work hard and strive to reach their goals.

After becoming a wife and mother, there really was not much time left for sports or any type of organized exercise. You throw a career in the mix, and it became nonexistent. That is, until my children became old enough and had the desire to participate in sports. My husband Jay had been looking for something that we could do together, but neither one of us wanted to go to a typical gym. We had done that before, and it left us bored. Which brings us to about this time last year when he found CIC. He really enjoyed the environment, and wanted me to give it a try but wasn’t sure if I’d like the weightlifting aspect. I promised that I would give it a try and see how it went. So as his loving wife J, on Valentine’s Day, I showed up to a Saturday workout and began my CrossFit journey. I was so out of shape, but I stuck it out and finished my first month here at CIC. And yes, Jay was right, the weights were not my favorite at first, but don’t tell him that I said that because I love them now!

Before I knew it, I was hooked. Always looking for ways to learn more and improve, pushing myself to reach goals that I had set for myself. Not to mention that CIC has the best cheerleaders around! Everyone has been so encouraging and helpful. The coaches, staff, and members make the environment so much fun. The CIC community is like no other, and I am proud to be a part of such a great group. I’m excited to be a coach here at CIC and look forward to helping each of you reach your goals.
